Topic

One of the characteristics of our time is the importance that is acquiring the design and development of Information Systems and their implementation using methodologies that include software engineering. The strongest economies already have a very significant part of their activity in the field of software development; it reaches 10% of GDP in the U.S.

Interestingly, for a sector so necessary in our society, there are not many academic journals on this topic and even less in the area in which this journal is specialized, the big corporations.

On this field, we have been working at the University of Huelva for many years: we make one of the most important studies done in Europe on Information Systems for big Spanish companies from the 90s and organize International Congresses on this field in our University, which have the cooperation of numerous international companies and academics involved in activities that are programmed into them.

Analyzing how to interact in highly computerized organizations is necessary to understand the society and economy of our time. Many languages with grammatical rules and words were created to allow the relationship between man and machine.

And therefore, we must study academically how to order all this communication to fulfill what we need. For this, methodologies of creating and implementing of Information Systems are being created since almost a century. In this situation, the "Software Engineering" emerged as a tool to control the highly complex organization of computing projects in which thousands of variables have to function as part of an orchestra that should sound together.

Still, this Software Engineering is even more necessary when projects are of enormous size, as with big companies, where Information Systems (both intra-organizational and external) are the essence of these corporations today.

With all this, we understand that we must join efforts the business world and the academic world to solve problems that arise in the development of computer projects involving numerous people, equipment and methodologies that must be organized to achieve goals in time and form. This is the essence of INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND SOFTWARE ENGINEERING FOR BIG COMPANIES (IJISEBC).

It is a biannual journal, two issues per year, published by the University of Huelva with its Research Group GITICE (Group for Research in Information Technology and Communications in Business) since December 2014.

Its access is free through Open Journal Systems, so that the management of the publication is done through developed system by Public Knowledge Project, whose process takes a machining process of handling manuscripts and reviews all papers by double and anonymous reviewers.

Each issue has a section of scholars papers (five for each edition), a section of events and another of abstracts of works, generally doctoral theses. With all this, the issues can be dedicated to monographic topics or to publish the best papers of Scientific Congresses. And the papers can be published in both Spanish and English.

This journal is electronic, but can be printed loose papers or complete issues in paper on demand, and will be included in the main systems of indexing in its scientific field.

Topics that this journal includes are:

  • Organizational Models and Information Systems
  • Software Systems, Architectures, Applications and Tools
  •  Information Technologies and Communications (ICTs)
  • Knowledge Management and Decision Support Systems
  • Computer Networks, Mobility and Pervasive Systems
  • Human Centered Computing

This journal does not charge APCs or submission charges.
