Presentation

Virtual Campuses are an inherent part of Higher Education Institutions as support tools for teaching in any of its modalities. These tools are part of the technological ecosystem of educational institutions and other tools incorporated over time to meet the various needs that accompany the different teaching-learning scenarios. Even though digital transformation is one of the objectives that any Higher Education Institution should address in the last decade, the pandemic caused by COVID-19 has highlighted the importance of this transformation and open educational resources and, therefore, of Open Education. Virtual Campuses and the different tools that make up the technological ecosystem that supports learning are evolving and adapting to the newly emerging needs.

Therefore, the XIII International Virtual Campus Conference will pay special attention to these new educational scenarios, as well as to the adaptation of face-to-face teaching to virtual or remote teaching, online evaluation processes, data protection, technological platforms and ecosystems, the increase in data traffic, resizing of virtual campus systems, streaming and videoconferencing systems, virtual and remote laboratories, adaptation of face-to-face practices to online practices as well as in-company practices and teleworking, among other situations derived from the adaptation of teaching to the health emergency.

However, digital transformation is not only a technological issue; it is a transformation that involves people and is for people. In this line, issues related to equality and diversity, respect for privacy, and an ethical approach to the use of technologies becomes of paramount importance that also wants to be put at the forefront of reflection and practice in this conference.

Likewise, as in previous editions, the XIII International Virtual Campus Conference aims to consolidate the international and multidisciplinary community working to develop virtual teaching in institutions. The areas of work range from educational innovation, quality assurance systems, technological infrastructure, and development of support tools, design, development, and publication of digital educational content and courses, training of teachers, students, managers, and technicians, virtualization and internationalization of teaching, openness to society through partnerships with companies and organizations, among other areas of growing interest to this community.

The XIII International Conference on Virtual Campus (JICV'23) are organized by the Universidade Portucalense, the University Network of Virtual Campus, the IEEE Education Society and the Spanish Chapter of the IEEE Education Society. These conferences will be held in a hybrid format (presential and non-presential) on September 25-26, 2023.
